Virgin Voyages Holiday Sailings: Christmas and New Year's at Sea
Yes, Virgin Voyages does the holidays — and does them very Virgin. Late each year the fleet runs "Holiday Edition" voyages: the same adults-only ships you love, dressed up with festive decor, seasonal menus, and holiday-twisted programming, capped off by New Year's Eve parties at sea. For winter 2026-27, all four ships are sailing the Caribbean from Miami and San Juan through the season.
Because Virgin is 18+, this is the rare holiday cruise with zero kids' choir performances and zero Santa photo lines. It's the grown-up version of the holidays — which, for a lot of our Sailors, is exactly the point.
What's actually different on board
Holiday Edition isn't a total transformation — it's Virgin's normal experience with a festive layer on top. Based on recent seasons, expect:
• Decor and photo moments — the ships (and even the Miami terminal) get a holiday makeover, with festive backdrops and a decked-out photo booth.
• Seasonal food and drinks — holiday menus and pastries across the restaurants, plus themed cocktails at the bars (past seasons brought drinks like the Merry Mai Tai and Blitzen Spritz).
• Holiday-twisted events — the grog walk, trivia, and PJ party all get seasonal spins, and past years added shows like "Happy Holidays with The Hostess & Friends." Pack the ugly sweater and festive pajamas; you'll use both.
• Little gifts — recent seasons included keepsakes like Christmas ornaments, with exclusive pins for Sailing Club members.
Everything that's normally included stays included — 20+ eateries, WiFi, entertainment, group fitness. Scarlet Night still happens too; red happens to be a very seasonal color.
Who's sailing for Christmas and New Year 2026-27
The Holiday Edition season kicks off in late November 2026 and runs through the New Year, all in the Caribbean:
• Scarlet Lady — shorter 4-5 night loops from Miami (Key West, Cozumel, Costa Maya, Grand Turk and more), ideal if you want festive-at-sea without burning the whole holiday break.
• Valiant Lady — 7-night Eastern and Southern Caribbean from San Juan, reaching islands like Tortola, Aruba, and Barbados.
• Resilient Lady — 6-8 night Miami sailings mixing Eastern and Western Caribbean with The Beach Club at Bimini.
• Brilliant Lady — the newest ship, sailing varied 4-10 night Caribbean itineraries from Miami after her Panama Canal return from the West Coast.
New Year's Eve at sea
NYE is where Virgin flexes. For the most recent New Year's, each ship threw a themed countdown party with its own musical identity — EDM on one ship, '90s throwback on another, Latin-infused on Valiant Lady out of San Juan — with champagne toasts, cabin surprises, and The Manor open with no cover and no line. Expect a similar ship-by-ship party lineup for ringing in 2027.
Why holiday weeks cost more (and how to play it)
Christmas and New Year's weeks are the highest-demand sailing dates of the entire year — everyone's off work at the same time, and there are only two of these weeks. Holiday sailings routinely price hundreds more per cabin than the identical itinerary in early December, and they rarely see meaningful last-minute discounts because they sell out instead.
The flip side: the first two weeks of December are quietly one of the best values of the year. You get the full Holiday Edition experience — decor, menus, festive events — at shoulder-season pricing, before the peak-week premium kicks in.
The Cruise Boys tip: if you're set on Christmas or NYE itself, book far earlier than feels necessary — 9-12+ months out — and pick your exact cabin rather than gambling on a Lock It In rate, because holiday GTY assignments come from whatever's left. An MNVV bought on a previous sailing stacks its discount and Sailor Loot on top, which takes real sting out of peak pricing. More on timing strategy in our when to book guide.
One honest note: holiday sailings skew a bit more social and party-forward, especially the NYE departures. If you want the festive decor with a calmer vibe, aim for an early-December Holiday Edition date instead.
