Virgin's suites — RockStar and, at the top, Mega RockStar — are about more than square footage. But let's answer the real question first: a RockStar Suite typically costs around 2.5–3x a standard cabin [VERIFY: current RockStar vs Sea Terrace price multiple], and what you're buying is mostly space, access, and service — not food or drinks. For some Sailors that's the best money they'll spend all year. For others, a great Sea Terrace plus a loaded Bar Tab delivers 90% of the joy at half the price.
Here's what actually changes when you go RockStar — and how to know which kind of Sailor you are.
What RockStar Quarters add over a Sea Terrace
RockStar Quarters — the entry suite tier: Brilliant Suite, Cheeky Corner, Seriously Suite, Sweet Aft — run roughly 352–857 square feet versus 185–225 for a Sea Terrace, with Tom Dixon–designed interiors, bigger terraces, and on most layouts a proper dressing/glam area. On top of the room itself:
RockStar Agents — a dedicated concierge team, reachable from the in-room phone or app, who arrange dining, spa, and special requests.
Richard's Rooftop — the suites-only sun deck and lounge, with a daily bubbly hour.
Early booking windows — dining and Shore Things open around 120 days before sailing, long before standard Sailors get access.
Priority everything — embarkation, plus early-entry lines for headline shows.
A stocked in-suite bar — first round complimentary, with one refill per voyage.
Free Ship Eats delivery (standard cabins pay a per-delivery fee).
What RockStar does not include
Despite what many Sailors assume: unlimited drinks, premium Wi-Fi, and spa access are Mega RockStar territory. Mega adds a bottomless in-suite bar, drinks included ship-wide, daily thermal suite access, premium Wi-Fi, daily laundry, and a near-personal Mega RockStar Agent — and the top Massive Suite even has a private outdoor hot tub. If those perks are the reason you're upgrading, price Mega; if you book regular RockStar expecting them, you'll be disappointed.
When the upgrade is worth it
We've watched Sailors get real value out of RockStar in a few repeatable situations:
Celebrations. Honeymoon, milestone birthday, "we survived the year" trip — the suite becomes part of the memory, not just a bed. Richard's Rooftop at sunset does a lot of emotional work here.
Two couples splitting a big suite. Cheeky Corner Suites sleep four with serious square footage. Split four ways, the per-person math can land surprisingly close to two separate Sea Terraces.
Sea-day-heavy itineraries. On a transatlantic or repositioning run, you live in your cabin and on your terrace. More room and a private sun deck matter far more than on a port-a-day Caribbean loop.
People who hate lines and planning. The early booking window means you lock The Wake and The Test Kitchen at prime times while everyone else waits — and your RockStar Agent handles the rest.
When a Sea Terrace + Bar Tab wins
If the RockStar premium on your sailing is, say, $3,000+ over a Sea Terrace, price out the alternative: a top-end Sea Terrace — Central or XL — plus a $300 Bar Tab (which comes with bonus Tab during some promos), plus a spa day pass, plus dinner at every specialty spot (already included — Virgin has 20+ eateries in the fare). You'll usually still have well over a thousand dollars left.
Remember what's already included for every Sailor: all the restaurants, entertainment, group fitness, basic Wi-Fi, and essentially the whole ship minus Richard's Rooftop. Virgin's baseline is unusually high — which is exactly why the suite upgrade is a want, not a need.
Our take: book RockStar for the occasion, the group split, or the sea days — not for the drinks (that's not what it includes) and not for status.
