What is an MNVV (My Next Virgin Voyage)?
Updated August 2026 to reflect Virgin Voyages' new MNVV booking window and name-change policy.
One of the savviest things you can do on a Virgin cruise is buy your next one — sort of. An MNVV (My Next Virgin Voyage) is a future-cruise placeholder you purchase on board for a small deposit, and it pays you back twice: a fare discount plus matching Sailor Loot (onboard spending credit) on the voyage you eventually book.
How the value works
The deposit is currently around $150, and the reward scales with the length of your future sailing — longer voyages earn a bigger discount and more Sailor Loot. In other words, you lock in savings now and get spending money later, all for a small, low-risk deposit. And if you change your mind quickly, Virgin currently allows a full refund within 7 days of purchase.
How long do you have to use it?
It depends on when you bought it. MNVVs purchased before Fall 2026 keep the older terms — typically about two years to sail. New purchases from Fall 2026 onward work differently: you have 1 year from your purchase date to pick your ship and sail date, but you can choose any voyage currently on sale — even one sailing further out than a year. In practice: book within the year, and the sailing itself can be later.
Can you give it to someone else?
Not anymore. As of August 6, 2026, name changes are no longer permitted on new MNVV purchases — your MNVV is yours and yours alone, so buy it for your own next adventure. Certificates purchased before that date may still carry their original transfer terms; ask us and we'll check yours.
What's staying the same
You can still purchase up to 4 MNVV offers for yourself during your voyage — handy if you cruise often.
Your travel agent stays linked to the booking, so your MNVV can be tied to The Cruise Boys® and you keep our service, price monitoring, and perks on the future sailing.
Cancelling still forfeits the promotional benefit — more on that below, because it's the one place Sailors get burned.
What happens if you cancel?
Here's the part to understand before you ever need it: the MNVV is a promotional offer, not a payment. Cancel a voyage you booked with one, and the promo benefit — the fare discount and the matching Sailor Loot — is forfeited. It doesn't detach and float back into your account for later.
The money usually isn't lost, though. Virgin currently converts your deposit into a Future Voyage Credit for the deposit amount, valid for a limited window (currently one year). That FVC spends like money toward a future booking, but it carries none of the MNVV's discount or Sailor Loot — the difference matters a lot, and we break it down in our Future Voyage Credit vs. MNVV guide.
The new rules raise the stakes here: with a 1-year booking window and no name changes, cancelling and "figuring it out later" is riskier than it used to be. A cancelled plan can quietly become an expired benefit. And once your MNVV is attached to an actual booking, your fare tier's cancellation terms take over — Base, Essential, and Premium each treat changes differently.
The better move: change your sailing, don't cancel it
If your dates stop working, an MNVV can generally be applied to a different voyage — you move the booking rather than kill it. You keep the discount, you keep the Sailor Loot, and your deposit keeps doing its job. Exact change rules depend on your fare tier and the terms attached to your MNVV, so don't guess — policies vary, ask us.
The Cruise Boys tip: never cancel an MNVV booking online in a moment of frustration. Once the promo is forfeited, no one can reattach it — not Virgin's Sailor Services, not us. A five-minute message to your agent first can save the entire benefit. And because the agent linked to your MNVV stays linked, we can see your options and reshop every sailing Virgin has on sale — nine times out of ten there's a date move, a fare-tier adjustment, or a hold strategy that beats walking away with a plain FVC.
