Carnival Just Dropped Massive Upgrades to Half Moon Cay (And You’re Going to Love This!)
What’s up, cruise fam! If you thought Carnival’s private slice of paradise in the Bahamas couldn’t get any better, it’s time to update your bucket list.
As of June 1, 2026, Carnival officially cut the ribbon on the newly expanded and rebranded RelaxAway, Half Moon Cay. We’ve been tracking these rumors for a while, and the final result is exactly what cruisers have been asking for. We’re talking a massive glow-up from the beach chairs to the food, but the biggest news is how you actually get on the island.
The End of the Tender Boat Era
Let’s start with the absolute game-changer: a brand-new pier.
If you’ve been to Half Moon Cay before, you know the drill — you had to take a tender boat from the ship to the shore. Not anymore! Now, you just stroll off the ship, cross a bridge, and you are immediately on island time. Carnival Sunrise was the very first ship to break it in.
Because of this new dock, Carnival’s massive Excel-class ships (Mardi Gras, Celebration, and Jubilee) can finally visit Half Moon Cay for the very first time!
A Bigger, Better Beach Day
Half Moon Cay has always been famous for its powdery white sand and turquoise water, but Carnival just gave us a whole lot more of it.
They’ve expanded the beachfront to include five distinct beach areas so things don't feel too crowded. They loaded the shore up with tons of new complimentary loungers and umbrellas. If you want to elevate your beach day, you can now reserve upgraded daybeds and cabanas.
The Food Scene Got a Serious Glow-Up
Forget your standard beach BBQ. Carnival has completely revamped the dining situation with two massive new food halls: Orchid Beach Grill and Hibiscus Beach Grill.
Instead of just burgers and hot dogs, you're getting full island-style buffets, a salad bar, dessert stations, and an absolutely epic nacho bar. To wash it down, they’ve opened up several new watering holes, including the Stay Awhile Beach Shack, Luna Tide Beach Bar, and the Lil' Tiki Bar.
Getting Around is a Breeze
With the island getting bigger, you might be wondering how you're going to drag your beach bag around. Carnival thought of that, too.
They’ve rolled out a brand-new, super-efficient tram system that connects all the different beach zones, bars, and food halls. You just hop on at the entrance and hop off at your chosen spot. If you want to get your steps in, they also built the Papaya Pathway, a scenic walking route that lets you explore the island on foot.
